Kitchen Remodeling TipsMany people think you need to wait and save thousands and thousands of dollars to update your kitchen—or that you have to take out a huge loan. While having that kind of money is certainly fun to spend on a kitchen remodel, there are still quite a few things you can do without a big, fat budget on your side. To update your kitchen with limited funds, consider these home-improvement suggestions from our crew at Hearn Construction, Inc.

1. Choose a new paint color.

If your kitchen currently has old wallpaper or an outdated hue, then one simple change you can make is to paint the walls. Interior painting is one of the fastest ways to see big changes without draining your bank account. Be sure to choose a modern color or a neutral that will stand the test of time.

2. Update your hardware.

It’s amazing what a few new pulls and knobs can do to make your cabinets and your kitchen look current. If your kitchen cabinets are sturdy and in decent condition, you may not have to do much more than replace the hardware for the time being.

3. Consider reorganizing.

Sometimes a few baskets or organizational aids in the pantry can make your kitchen much more functional. You don’t always have to demo and start from scratch. Instead, you can learn to reorganize and maximize the space you have.

4. Replace light fixtures.

Another inexpensive change you can make that won’t make you go broke is to trade old light fixtures for new, modern options. You’ll likely want to hire a general contractor to make sure the job is done right since you’re dealing with the electrical. However, changing out a light fixture will still be far less expensive than putting in a new window or replacing countertops.

5. Choose your DIY projects wisely.

If you’re skilled at painting or installing tile flooring, then you can definitely save money by doing the work yourself. However, just because you can find a how-to video online doesn’t mean you should do everything on your own. Home improvement is not just about making things look better but making sure they’re done safely and are built to last. So if you want to make sure it’s done right the first time and don’t have the skills to DIY, then go ahead and hire a contractor for your home project.
