To Move or To Remodel?

Ah, yes. That is indeed the question plaguing many homeowners, especially those with growing families. The decision whether to buy a bigger home or add on to your existing one can be a difficult one to answer. Here are a few things our crew at Hearn Construction, Inc. urges you to consider.

1. Do you like your neighborhood?

If you don’t like your neighborhood or want to be in a different school zone, then now might be a good time to relocate. However, if you love the area you live in, then you may want to consider whether you can find the home you want at a price you can afford just down the road.

2. Do you plan to stay in the area long term?

Is Kokomo, Lafayette, or Indianapolis where you plan to call home for the long haul? Or are you only here as a stopping point to what’s next? Maybe you dream of one day living closer to family out of state or you just really want to retire in the south. Considering how long you want to stay in your current city may help you decide whether a move is worth it.

3. Does the home fit your style?

How do you feel about your current home’s style? Does the design fit you, or have you always dreamt of living in a colonial or craftsman? If you don’t love your home, you have to ask yourself whether you can do enough home improvements to get it there.

4. How do you feel about moving?

Some people love change. They love packing and unpacking boxes every so often, going where life takes them. Others, however, detest moving. They see the process as nothing but a bother. As you consider moving versus remodeling, you have to ask yourself: Is it worth it?

How you answer these questions may give you clarity on whether you want to find a new house or start your home-remodeling journey. If you decide to add on or remodel, our contractors at Hearn Construction have helped a number of homeowners make their existing homes work for them. From basement finishing and room additions to kitchen remodeling, we can help you find a workable solution for your need for space.
